Light up their lives

BJ Palmer described the chiropractic clinical interaction as being of two components. The quantity factor, which addresses interference to the structural and the neuronal components of the subluxation complex and the quality factor, which addresses interference to thinking and emotional factors and therefore the quality of the nerve impulse.

It reminds me of the story of a rich man who was dying so he called his three sons and said to them. “I wish to leave my fortune intact, so I will set each of you the same task to see which one is the most capable at managing money. In my warehouse there are three large storerooms, all of the same size. Here is a bag of silver each. Your task is to each fill one storeroom with as much as your silver will buy.” The first son bought sand with all the money and filled a third of his room. The second son bought soil with all his money and filled half his room. The third son spent only a small portion of his money and bought some candles and matches and filled his room with light.

It is not good enough to just do our job of administering to people’s physical ills or even just correcting the vertebral subluxation complex.

Our greatest gift to our people is the much neglected and often times scorned chiropractic vision, a vision that respects Innate Intelligence, the inherent wisdom within all living things.

People naturally resonate with the chiropractic vision when they get the opportunity.

Firstly the vision needs to be communicated in order to overcome their encrusted, debilitating programming.

Communication includes listening and exploring concerns, not just telling and instructing.

Secondly, the chiropractic premise of Universal Intelligence suggests an interconnectedness of all energy and so in the chiropractic clinical context the doctor/practice member relationship becomes a partnership, which includes discussion and mutual agreement about the outcomes of care.

Thirdly, the chiropractic vision of possibility that is inherent within all living matter equips us to be a vehicle for health promotion beyond symptoms – the incredible gift of lifetime wellness care. Our role is more than the mechanical therapeutic adjustment of unwanted conditions.

If we truly want to survive, flourish and be of service to humanity into the future, we need to create a generative care context in which we communicate our vision, empower people in a lifetime partnership and hand people a candle that will light up their life.
