We all have a history of experiences, which contribute to our current abilities, wisdom and insights. Some chiropractors have had 10, 20 or more years experience in practice whilst others have had one years experience 10, 20 or more times.

What is the difference that makes the difference?

Ilia Priogine made observation of what he called dissipative structures where he noted that in any closed system when the pressure built to a certain point the system ‘popped’ to a new level.

If there was not enough pressure the system stayed the same, if the pressure built to popping point and then was taken off the system stayed the same. As you know, when you go to the gym and lift weights you have intent to see growth and development in your muscular profile. If you only lifted weights until you started getting a little tired you would not have the same results as if you lifted the same weights until you couldn’t lift any more in that set. Pushing through the last few repetitions is what damages the muscle fibres causing them to ‘pop’ to a new level of form.

For growth to occur in any living system the system must be put under pressure to the point where it ‘pops’ to a new level. Your professional development is no exception.

Ask yourself whether you are doing the same thing in the comfort zone day in day our, year in year out. Are you obsessed with having balance in your life and practice and therefore taking the pressure off when it builds too much? OR are you pushing the boundaries, trying on new ideas, new behaviours, new techniques, new concepts and styles.

Are you creating a life of the same year over and over or are you making every day a day of ‘popping’ to a new level, never to return to the same old ways?
