Change your practice

The next few blogs will focus on the topic of transformation.

When we consider the dictionary definition of transformation we find words like – change in form, appearance, nature or character. The operative work here is change. Transformation is the process of change across form – or from one form to another.

What you experienced yesterday is gone because the world changes every day. Your body changes. People change. Weather changes. Relationships change. Prices change. Emotions change. Circumstances change. Practices change. Everything is in motion. Everything is changing and transforming every second.

When you ask yourself the question – is change desirable? I’m sure you will say, yes. And yet when asked do you find change easy the answer will probably a little different.

Why is it that most of us at some level hate change? Often things are going bad. When money is low, when the kids are having issues at school, when relationships are strained, when the practice is struggling or the team are being mediocre there is a reluctance or at least an energy deficit that sees you embracing change. Likewise, when we can pay our bills on time, when the kids are doing well in school, when our relationships are happy, when the practice is booming, people getting great results, the team is on-song the last thing we want is to transform anything.

But change and the transformation that is associated with it is unavoidable.

We have two choices when it comes to transformation – either move forward and engage it (no matter how terrifying this may be) or resist it, be caught on your back foot and disengage from it. The former results in you evolving, the later, a devolving.

Our commitment with Quest is to facilitate the evolution of chiropractors and of chiropractic. You can either move forward and evolve into being a finer version of a chiropractor or you devolve into a lesser version – it’s quite simple.

It’s like the controls of your car. You have an accelerator that propels the car forward a brake that slows it down and a steering wheel that guides its direction. Committing to the accelerator keeps you moving forward and allows you to navigate the path ahead. Taking your foot off the gas and putting your foot on the brake limits your scope for navigating to new places. Keep it up and you grind to a halt.

The process of change requires a leap of faith – an action of commitment. You must allow the old to give way to the new. You must be willing for a new form to emerge.

We are constantly changing – every breath – every thought is a unique phenomena and new moment that brings with it new energy, insights, awareness, possibility and aliveness. Likewise, if we are in a downward spiral this change brings consolidation, compaction, rigidity, inflexibility and deathliness.

What areas of your practice do you think that you are on the verge of or in the process of transformation and which areas are you resisting transformation?

What changes do you know have your name on them?

What areas are calling out to you?

Are there team members who are working their way out of the team?

Are there practice members who need to be called into line around their agreements with you?

Are there practice members who need to be dismissed – freed up to find their higher good elsewhere?

Commit to engaging with them this week.
